Today I came upon the realization that I would never want to hang out with Oscar Wilde if given the chance.  I stumbled upon this minor revelation as I was reading “Oscar Wilde, Classics Scholar” by Daniel Mendelsohn on the train ride back to Brooklyn today.

It’s nothing against Mr. Mendelsohn’s piece.  It’s just Wilde strikes out due to the fact that he was both:

A “dandy.”

and

A “classics scholar.”

One of those things at a time I can handle, but put them both together and all bets are off.
