The Observer post on trying to come to an understanding of the Bush song “Glycerine,” got me thinking about rock lyrics, and how utterly bad most of them can be.
Some lyric writers can toss a bunch of words together, and it just works. We’ve already made a list of musicians who would probably write interesting books, but what about the people who write the stuff that borders on terrible poetry/philosophical hooey? I’d have to guess that the Bush song in question might rank high in the worst offenders list with its weird meeting of existential debate, and pseudo Marxist observations like “we live in a wheel where everyone steals but when we rise it’s like strawberry fields.”
What are some other incredibly horrible song lyrics?
