Word comes via Vulture that Jesse Eisenberg will star in a cinematic adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s The Double. Pretty nifty, you might say. Even more intriguing, though, is the choice of director: Richard Ayoade, who some of you might know from his directorial debut Submarine or his role on The IT Crowd.
Ayoade’s also the co-creator of the British comedy series Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, which at least one Vol.1 editor is mildly obsessed with. (To the extent that he periodically considers posting Afterbirth as his contribution to #fridayreads.) Smart folks adapting classic fiction? We like the idea; given the layers on which Darkplace works, it seems possible that Ayoade’s adaptation will head in unexpected directions.
