Matt Bell — editor of The Collagist and author of the excellent short story collection How They Were Found — has a new book out this month on Mud Luscious Press. It’s called Cataclysm Baby, and it’s a series of short scenes of family life — except that the families here live in post-cataclysmic societies, and the relations between parents and children are charged by the metamorphoses undergone by the younger generation.
About the book, Karen Russell said, “In extraordinary language, with deep feeling, Matt Bell has crafted a baby name book for the apocalypse, a gorgeous, brilliant, often darkly hilarious and always moving novella.”
We’ll be hosting Bell at RAC on Monday, May 1. Also reading: Melissa Broder, Julia Jackson, Lincoln Michel, and Jacob Silverman.
RAC is located at CultureFix, at 9 Clinton Street in Manhattan. The event will begin at 7.
