We are huge admirers of the work of Juliet Escoria; among other things, earlier this year, we published her story “The Other Kind of Magic.” We were also thrilled to hear that Civil Coping Mechanisms would be releasing her debut collection, Black Cloud, in 2014.

Escoria has been making a series of videos inspired by the stories in her collection; this one, “Reduction,” tells the story of a couple’s ecstatic rise and dwindling fall. The collage-like feel of it accentuates its shifts in mood, and it’s well worth checking out. (Though a few shots are not work-friendly.)
