Currents, an Interview Series with Brian Alan Ellis (Episode 47: Constance Ann Fitzgerald)

Constance Ann Fitzgerald

CONSTANCE ANN FITZGERALD is the author of Glue (Lazy Fascist Press, 2016) and Trashland A Go-Go (Eraserhead Press, 2011). She currently lives in Portland, Oregon, where her happiness is wholly contingent upon whether or not there is a dog in the room.

My current favorite books are: So We Can Glow by Leesa Cross-Smith (sings to the teen girl hearts of damn near every thirty-something) and The Loop by Jeremy Robert Johnson (intense… couldn’t stop reading it).

My current favorite actor is: John Goodman, because his range is undervalued and he has some serious chops!

My current favorite television shows are: Search Party (it’s so damn clever) and Legendary (I’ve never been to a proper ball so I may as well enjoy it on television).

My current favorite bands are: Deep Creep and Slothrust… and I have also been listening to a concerning amount of AFI.

My current state of mind is: best answered by that video of that guy putting rubber bands around a watermelon until it explodes. Things are pretty fucked and I’m someone who likes to know what’s coming. SURPRISE! Not gonna happen.

My current chemical romance involves: dooooooooooommmm scrolling. I just want to know what’s going on all the time and it’s not great. Really need to put my phone down and go walk children in nature.

My current favorite quote is: “The hardest thing in this world is living in it.”

My current mode of transportation is: this rapidly decaying body of mine.

My current favorite fast food item is: curly fries. Fries of all kinds.

My current workout routine consists of: walking around my neighborhood and doing laps around the clinic where I work.

My current regrettable decision involves: …there is no possible way to answer this in 100 words or less. [Brian Alan Ellis’s note: Constance once told me she drunkenly broke a toilet seat cover with her face.]

My current hobbies/projects include: working on a new book about my time in Petaluma. Moving at a glacial pace, but moving nonetheless. Also painting little ghosts into thrifted paintings and prints.

My current hopes and dreams are: to be able to do things with friends again. I love to be alone but there’s a limit, man.
