Our Band Could be on Your Bookshelf: The growing SST Records library

Bob Mould’s memoir is worth reading for more than just his exploits in Hüsker Dü (the LA Times seemed to like his book, See a Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody), since the guy has lived a pretty interesting life that goes way beyond stories about driving from town to town in a van to play for little to no money.

What I realized as I placed my order for the book, was that of all the seminal punk and indie record labels from the 1980s, SST Records seems to churn out the most authors.

While the list is by no means long, Mould joins members of Sonic Youth, Mike Watt, and Henry Rollins as musicians who have transitioned from writing songs to writing books.  And for the most part, they’re all really worth reading.
