The Second Person, Through Hotels and Books

bound-by-chance

The second person. In the hands of certain writers, it can be a powerful device, inducing empathy and intimacy and binding the reader’s perspective to that of the protagonist in a somewhat discomfiting way. And if you’re near the Ace Hotel on Saturday, there will be an event for a very unique publishing project. Cue the Ace’s site:

At the invitation of Ace Hotel New York and Word Bookstore, over a dozen amazing authors have crafted short works in the second-person narrative. Each story involves you, and a room.

This project features work from Emma Straub, Chelsea Hodson, Dolan Morgan, Danniel Schoonebeek, Roxane Gay, Travis J Nichols, Bill Cheng, Myke Cole, Rachel Fershleiser, Edan Lepucki, Thomas Page McBee, Sarah McCarry, and Rajesh Parameswaran. Things kick off this Saturday at 3; the Ace’s website has more details.
