Currents, an Interview Series with Brian Alan Ellis (Episode 88: Timothy Willis Sanders)

Timothy Willis Sanders

TIMOTHY WILLIS SANDERS is the author of the short story collections Modern Massacres (Publishing Genius, 2022) and Orange Juice and Other Stories (Publishing Genius, 2010), and the novel Matt Meets Vik (Civil Coping Mechanisms, 2014). He lives in San Francisco.

My current favorite things to read are: modern histories of Russia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Most recently, Red Famine by Anne Applebaum.

My current favorite thing to watch is: my dog doing that dog thing where he curls his paws and places them on his snout like a canine prayer.

My current favorite thing to listen to is: white noise. Air filters, air fryers, cicadas, oceans.

My current state of mind is: …the world is burning but personally I am doing well. I’m just off 2.5 years of therapy and recently married. I’m at peace with many things.

My current chemical romance involves: …my wife would say my preoccupation with famine, genocide, plague and catastrophic disasters. And sugar.

My current words of wisdom are: …don’t be afraid to get healthy. You’ll lose friends, but you’ll gain yourself.

My current mode of transportation is: …I walk and drive.

My current favorite fast food item is: the chemical sludge that comes together to make a Popeyes biscuit is pretty delicious.

My current workout routine consists of: walking my little dog up San Francisco hills 2x a day.

My current regrettable decision involves: getting into political arguments online.

My current hopes and dreams are: …my wife is Sicilian and she’s applying for Italian citizenship. The dream is to save money and retire there. Maybe die at age 90 from a pasta overdose.

My current hobbies include: watching soccer. Other than that, working on my second novel.
