Vol. 1 Brooklyn turns 2 with a benefit for Girls Write Now!

To celebrate our second birthday, Vol. 1 Brooklyn presents a benefit for Girls Write Now.  We’d be really excited to see you come out and support one of our absolute favorite groups in the known universe, and celebrate two years of Vol. 1’s existence.   7 PM Thursday, July 14th at Brooklyn Winery.

With readers Deb Olin Unferth, Jami Attenberg, Maud Newton, Kio Stark, and Alina Simone.

There will be a raffle with prizes from various publishers, record labels, and other great vendors.  The event is free, but donations are encouraged as all profits go to Girls Write Now.  Did we mention that there will probably be cake?

Please RSVP here.

Girls Write Now is the first organization in the United States to combine mentoring and writing instruction within the context of all-girls programming. Since 1998, they have provided a safe and supportive environment for more than 3,500 at-risk girls to expand their natural writing talents, develop independent creative voices, and build confidence in making healthy choices in school, career, and life. 100% of GWN’s seniors graduate and move on to college – bringing with them awards, scholarships, a new sense of confidence and new skills. Girls Write Now has been featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and in The New York Times, and was distinguished by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities as one of the top 15 after-school arts and culture programs in the nation.
