Currents, an Interview Series with Brian Alan Ellis (Episode 65: KKUURRTT)

KKUURRTT

KKUURRTT is glad you read his thing. His novel Good at Drugs is available now on Back Patio Press. He can be found on Twitter at @wwwkurtcom.

My current favorite thing to read is: Twitter.com. Hahahahahahaha.

My current favorite thing to watch is: Tubi. The free streaming service that curates mostly trash films. I wrote a Daily Drunk chapbook about my love, so those who follow are already well aware. Sometimes a movie like The Thing will show up, but it’s mostly stuff like Granglins IX: Granglins Get Loose. Even if it is just some executives trying to figure which niche remained in streaming. “How much would it cost for all the films nobody else wants?” I fall asleep most nights watching. That or Criterion. Just watched Sun Ra’s Space is the Place. On which? You’ll never know.

My current favorite thing to listen to is: … a few months back I went to Desert Daze. It’s rare that a music festival has nothing happening between acts, but after the financial hardship that COVID was to the music industry, this year’s iteration operated as a limited version with only one stage and thirty-minute set breaks between every act. The music between was curated by Al Lover, who turned it all into a banging Spotify playlist. Truly this amazing collection of psychedelia. From Steve Hillage to Megan Thee Stallion.

My current state of mind is: fine. Maybe even great. I wouldn’t bother answering these questions if my state of mind was piss poor or even generally unwell. I’d just let it lapse in my inbox for another two or three or four or five weeks. So today, solid… Tomorrow, who knows?

My current chemical romance involves: tequila shots right now.

My current words of wisdom are: “Just shut up.” That thing you absolutely think it’s necessary to say? It’s probably not.

My current mode of transportation does not involve: fucking airplanes, I’ll tell you that much. Was just on one and let me tell you: at 6 foot 5 I don’t fit. I can’t even move my body to any kind of tilt to have any decent sort of rest. Airplanes blow.

My current favorite fast food item is: …does a slice of pizza count? I’m gonna get two slices and a beer for lunch tomorrow and I’m feeling pretty amped about it.

My current workout routine consists of: …man, I hate saying “what workout routine?” and meaning it, like acknowledging that I’m not taking care of myself [in print] and now actually having to do something about it rather than just continuing to ignore it like the non-problem problem it so clearly is. I guess, thanks for helping. Jeez. Thanks for saving my life? Sedentary slothdom can really only go for so long.

My current regrettable decision involves: …there are some typos in Good at Drugs that break my heart. On page 23 I wrote “peedball” instead of “speedball.”  Like come on. What the fuck is wrong with me?

My current hopes and dreams are: to keep bettering myself. Developing habits and routines that will help set some sort of future happiness into motion. Maybe a house somewhere nice. That seems big enough to call a dream.

My current hobbies include: reading Hobbies You Enjoy on Instagram. Winking emoji.
